Prerequisites

All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher by the end of ’s winter term, prior to the application deadline. Pass/no pass grades are not accepted.

If you have taken courses outside of , you are responsible for ensuring your courses transfer to meet the requirement before you apply to the Dental Hygiene program. Learn about transferring credits to .

You can meet with an academic advisor for prerequisite planning. Submit official transcripts first (if applicable).

Course with a 7-year expiration date

The last year accepted for the 2027 application is 2020.

  • BI 234: Microbiology
    • Must be completed in 2020 or more recent.

Courses with no expiration date

  • College-level chemistry: CH 102 or higher
    • For the 2027 application: To fulfill the college-level chemistry prerequisite at , applicants can take CH 102: Organic Chemistry Principles or a higher-level chemistry course.
      • Keep in mind, chemistry courses have specific prerequisites for reading, writing, and math.
      • If you completed chemistry at another institution, send your official transcripts for review – a CH 1XX evaluation will not meet our requirement.

    • Beginning in the 2028 application cycle: The new chemistry requirement is CH 106.
      • If you haven’t completed CH 102: Students applying in 2028 or after must complete the new chemistry requirement of CH 106 or higher.
      • If you have completed CH 102: Students who have completed CH 102 with a “C” grade or higher may use this course to meet the chemistry admission requirement through the 2030 application cycle.
      • Starting with the 2031 application cycle, CH 106 will be the only accepted chemistry course that can be used to meet the application requirements.
  • BI 231Z: Anatomy & Physiology I (previously BI 231)
  • BI 232Z: Anatomy & Physiology II (previously BI 232)
  • FN 225: Nutrition
  • MTH 65: Introductory Algebra – 2nd Term (or higher)
    • For the 2027 application: To fulfill the math requirement, applicants may use MTH 65, 70, 95, 98, 105Z, 111Z, or STAT 243Z or higher to fulfill this requirement.
    • Beginning in the 2028 application cycle: The new math requirement is MTH 110 or higher.
      • If you haven’t completed MTH 65, 95, 98, or 105Z: Students applying in 2028 or after must complete the new math requirement of MTH 110 or higher.
      • If you have completed MTH 65, 95, 98, or 105Z: Applicants may use ’s MTH 65, MTH 95, MTH 98, MTH 105Z (or a direct equivalent transfer course) to meet this requirement through the 2030 application cycle.
      • Starting with the 2031 application cycle, MTH 110 or higher will be the math requirement.
  • WR 121Z: English Composition I (or higher)
    • Completion of a U.S. bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. regionally accredited institution can be used to meet the WR 121Z competency.
    • Other writing courses accepted are WR 122Z, WR 222, and WR 227Z.
  • One prerequisite elective course from psychology, sociology, and communications
    • Applicants must successfully complete one course from each of the following categories with a grade of “C” or higher: PSY, SOC, and COMM.
