Apply to the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate

To enroll in this program, you must apply for admission. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Career Pathway certificate is a two-course, 12-credit program that can be completed in less than one year. Students complete EMS 105 and EMS 106 to build the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to provide emergency medical care at the EMT level. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam.

Admission to the EMT program is determined through a lottery system. As a limited-entry program, all completed applications submitted during the application period will be included in the lottery. The application window is open for one month each admission cycle. Class capacity varies by term.

The lottery is conducted on the day following the application deadline. Applicants will then be notified of their admission status (accepted or not selected) through their ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ email account. Please monitor your ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ email regularly. All official communication, including admission decisions, deadlines, and required next steps, will be sent exclusively to your ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ email. Failure to respond by the stated deadlines may result in forfeiture of your seat.

2. Attend an information session

   Information sessions cover an overview of the career, details about the program, and an in-depth explanation of the application process.

   If your goal is to continue onto one of ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½’s paramedic programs after completing your EMT courses, make an appointment with to discuss your plan.

3. Take prerequisites

   You must meet the standard ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ prerequisites in reading, writing, and math. Follow the to complete your college placement.

   • High school diploma or equivalent
   • WR 115: Intro to College Composition (or placement into higher)
   • RD 90: Reading (or placement into higher)
   • MTH 20: Fundamentals of Math (or placement into higher)

4. Submit application

   Fill out the EMT application during one of the application periods listed above.

After you apply

After the application form closes, applicants who have met the requirements will be selected by a lottery system. 48 students will be selected for acceptance into the program, with 10 students selected for the alternate/wait list. You will need to make sure to monitor your ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ email, as that is where all communication from us will go. Students should not register or pay for a DISA CB account until they have been accepted into the EMT program.

Students who are accepted

Notifications will be emailed to your ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ email with an acceptance confirmation form, which must be submitted by the due date indicated in the email to confirm a spot in the program or accept an alternate status.

Mandatory orientation

Accepted students and students on the alternate list are required to attend mandatory orientation. Information about the orientation will be provided with the acceptance letter.

During orientation, students will upload their vaccination records, register and pay for the compliance software we use to track these requirements (DISA CB), and receive assistance. Students will also be required to present a valid government-issued photo ID during orientation to verify that they meet the program’s minimum age requirement of 18.

• All EMT students must meet the Health Profession Student Clinical Training Administrative Requirements, as described in Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) Chapter 409 – Division 30, as well as any requirements mandated by their clinical site. Registration

Upon successful completion of all compliance requirements, students will be given permission to register. Students must enroll before the given deadline, or the seat will be released. Students who need additional time due to financial aid delays or other extenuating circumstances should contact the program admissions representative listed in the registration permission email. Please note that registration deadlines are often close to the class start date, so extensions or other accommodations may be limited. Students who do not attend the first class session will be dropped from the class.
