Middle College announces University of Oregon partnership
Story by James Hill
At Jefferson High School news conference on Wednesday, June 15, a host of educators, dignitaries and students gathered to usher in a new era for the Middle College partnership between ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ and Portland Public Schools. The University of Oregon announced that it will provide up to three years of tuition-free study to Middle College students who complete one year of study at ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ through the program, whether during high school or after. Students in the program now have a clear path from high school all the way to a Bachelor’s degree.
In addition, the program has operated on an opt-in basis – but starting this fall, the Middle College will expand to encompass every JHS freshman. PPS Superintendent Carole Smith was joined by ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ President Preston Pulliams, University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere, newly-appointed Jefferson Principal Margaret Calvert and Mayor Sam Adams to announce the news.
