PORTLAND, Ore. – The New Year will bring not only renewed optimism but also an exciting winter term of events and classes at ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½. The term officially starts on Monday, Jan. 7 and students can register for classes on the touch-tone phone system, TRAIL, at 503-977-5000, or toll-free at 1-866-822-1010.Students may also contact Admissions Offices at any of ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½’s three comprehensive campuses and the Southeast Center: Sylvania Campus (located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.) at 503-977-4519; Cascade Campus (705 N. Killingsworth) at 503-978-5282; Rock Creek Campus (17705 N.W. Springville Road) at 503-614-7270 and Southeast Center (2850 S.E. 82nd Ave.) at 503-788-6252. Registration is also available on the Internet at www.pcc.edu.The term will once again bring students classes from a wide range of offerings, including college transfer classes, one- and two-year professional training courses in 60 different fields, personal interest classes at community locations throughout ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½’s 1,500-square-mile district, literacy classes and much more.There will also be plenty of community events. ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ will host the annual Winter Powwow with the theme, "Quilt of Life: Celebrating Family Community and Continuity"from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 in the HT Building gymnasium at the Sylvania Campus. This event is free and open to ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ staff, students and also to the public. For more information, contact the Multicultural Center at 503-977-4112.Also in winter term, the Cascade Campus hosts the Cascade Festival of African Films in February to highlight Black History Month around the ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ district. During the month, ¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ will co-sponsor the 18th annual Gospel Explosion, which will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the New Song Community Church, 2511 N.E. Martin Luther King Blvd. The event is open to the public and promises an unforgettable musical evening.¶¶Òõ¸£Àûµ¼º½ is the largest institution of higher learning in the state, serving more than 980,000 residents in its five-county district in northwest Oregon. The college will enroll approximately 100,000 students this year.
