Faculty across disciplines are rightly responding to AI with varying levels of doubt, distrust, hope, frustration, acceptance, and grief. Instructors have wildly different ways of resisting and supporting this enormous cultural shift, and many colleges don鈥檛 have a coherent or consistent AI policy. Reading and Writing Centers are uniquely positioned to examine how AI has transformed not only how we teach but also how we read student work. Join us as we share approaches that minimize forensics and blame, and that instead strategize ways to support student voice, cognitive development, and belonging.

This session introduces updates to What Works Well in Online Teaching, 抖阴福利导航鈥檚 resource highlighting
inclusive, effective online teaching practices, including new guidance on ethical and meaningful uses
of AI. Attendees will take part in a hands-on, small-group activity to collaborate and share best
practices, particularly in light of emerging AI tools. The session also offers an opportunity to gather
faculty insights that will help inform future updates to the resource. Participants will leave with
facilitation materials and practical strategies to strengthen teaching, enhance instructor presence,
and deepen community in online learning environments.

Summary

In this session, we will discuss the dangers of AI. We will look at three areas in particular as they relate to AI: the environment, creativity, and the flaws of AI. For the environmental piece, we will discuss data centers and their usage of energy and water. For the creativity piece, we will discuss how AI steals from artists. Finally, for the flaws of AI, we will discuss hallucinating, racism, sexism, manipulation, and destruction.

This session explores how AI can support d/Deaf students in developing English skills through accessible, bilingual, and culturally responsive methods. Participants will learn how AI provides ASL-friendly explanations, strengthens critical thinking, and reduces barriers created by autism and traditional hearing-centered instruction. The presentation demonstrates practical strategies for utilizing AI to enhance reading, writing, vocabulary, and academic confidence, while promoting equitable learning in college settings.

During this session we will explore what faculty/staff need to know about Title IX, who is a Responsible Employee and who is Confidential, and how to support students after a disclosure. Artificial Intelligence is reshaping cultural imagery, education, and community narratives, raising urgent questions for Chicanx and Latinx communities about representation, spirituality, and cultural integrity. This panel interrogates how AI flattens diverse identities into commodified stereotypes while obscuring Latinx contributions to technological futures. We examine AI as a bordering technology, its cultural and social impacts despite Latinx innovation, and the displacement of sacred rituals like altar鈥恗aking and the disruptions of knowledge production and learning as a sacred privilege and responsibility. Attendees will reflect on equity, belonging, and alternative futures where technology supports cultural complexities.

This presentation critically investigates how AI interacts with the hidden curriculum of higher education by examining the often-unseen labor neurodivergent students perform, using Tourette Syndrome as a lens and point of lived experience. I explore how AI can unintentionally reinforce normative assumptions about attention and behavior, while also offering meaningful possibilities for a culture of care. Participants will consider practical, equity-centered strategies for using AI to broaden access, agency, and belonging.

This workshop will help you develop clear, enforceable syllabus policies that align with your course鈥檚 learning outcomes and reflect personal and institutional values.

Explore equitable pedagogy with a website tour demonstrating a mapping of the 7 Principles of Equitable Effective Teaching to a course structure. After discussing examples of challenges and opportunities in a flipped class, participants will map the principles to their own lessons, identifying ways to integrate AI and AI-teaching. This activity promotes belonging and addresses conference themes including Universal Design for Learning, accessibility (UDL), and ethical AI use.
